Scouting
Scouting is simply the use of a Scout.

[edit] Scouting Basics
Scouting performance is measured by
- The amount of information and level of detail provided by the scouting mission.
- The range of the scouting mission.
- The speed of the scouting mission.
[edit] Detail
the detail of information you get from scouting missions may vary on many factors
- Your Informatics level (Researched in the Academy)
- The amount of Scouts you send
- If you include a Hero in your mission, his Intelligence will count
- If you are spying against a Valley, its level.
The most important factor is researching Informatics. Every level of Informatics increases the chance of success and the level of detail that will be provided on a successful scouting attempt. To successfully scout an area or a city your Informatics level must be equal to or higher than the area being scouted.
| Example: To successfully scout a level 3 Grassland you will require a level 3 Informatics or higher. |
The number of scouts sent on a scouting expedition also contributes to the success of the mission. For every level of the area being scouted a minimum of 10 scouts should be sent.
[edit] Range and Speed
Scouts require food. If you are sending just scouts (fastest) your range will be limited. Beginners can go about 100-110 miles. Adding load-bearing units increases the amount of food that can be carried and the range, but slows the mission down.

[edit] Troops Amount
If your level of Informatics isn't high enough, or if your scout party is too small for the level of the target, then instead of getting accurate number amounts, your scouts will estimate the offender's troops. The following descriptions stand for specific troops estimates:
| Amount | Range |
| Few | 1 - 24 |
| Pack | 25 - 49 |
| Lots | 50 - 99 |
| Horde | 100 - 249 |
| Throng | 250 - 499 |
| Swarm | 500 - 999 |
| Zounds | 1000-2499 |
| Legion | 2500 - 4999 |
| Bulk | 5000 - 9999 |
| Giga | >10,000 |
[edit] Following move
After scouting you must determine your plan of attack. See Attack
[edit] Scouting with Hero
You can include a hero in your scouting mission. This will increase the level of detailed information. The higher intelligence of the hero, the more he affects the outcome.
Warning: If scouts are detected and killed, the hero may be as well!
[edit] Scouting for Weak Defending Heroes
One method of attacking a higher-level NPC's that you might otherwise be able to successfully attack is to repeatedly Scout it until a very low level Hero appears in the reports.
Each time the city is scouted a new Hero will be in charge. Repetition and persistence will lead to a very weak defending Hero in the city. At this point, STOP Scouting and attack!
