The Basics
What is Evony? Many people previously knew it as Civony, a massive online game where people can build cities, conquer valleys and meet great people. But Evony takes it a step further! Smoother game play, new skins and bragging high difficulty with bigger rewards. All you start with is a lonesome village in the middle of nowhere with a Town Hall. So what do you do from there? Evony has a very easy learning curve so you’ll be along in no time, but this basic guide will help you along your way through the Beginners Protection but feel free to speak to the guests or post on the forums for other advice. There are a massive 83 servers to choose from, you may create an account for each one if you like but one should do you for now.

[edit] Main Screen
Firstly, on the right of your screen there are numbers, these are your resources, your current population, idle population, tax rate percentage and gold. These are simply (with examples);
City Name and Co-ordinates on map: Evony – (100,347) – This is what many players refer to as ‘coords,’ this tells people what your current city location is.
Loyalty/Public Grievance: 90/5 – Being in battle and the percentage of your tax rate can affect these, but remember you are under 7 day protection so no-one can attack you and you may not attack anyone else either.
Tax Rate: 10% - This depends on the money you will be getting an hour, stick with a low tax rate of below 10% in the first week so then you may increase it once your population increases.
Gold: 1,000 – Not to be confused with cents, you earn these each hour
Population: 50 – the amount of people you currently have overall in your village, the green figure next to the black figure of population is your idle population.
Food: 10,000 – This is the food that you currently have; the green figure to the right is production level.
Lumber: 10,000 – This is the wood you currently have; the green figure to the right is production level.
Stone: 10,000 - This is the stone you currently have; the green figure to the right is production level.
Iron: 10,000 - This is the iron you currently have; the green figure to the right is production level.
These resources are one of your major life lines so don’t immediately waste them, save them and increase your production level.
[edit] Increasing Resources
If you want to go straight to the QUEST section to earn quick rewards scroll down, or stay on this section to know the basics of increasing your resources. To raise your resource level you must build out of city structures. On the top right of your screen you have TOWN, which shows what you are looking at now, CITY, shows the area outside of your town and WORLD, which shows your prospective city on the world map. But what you want is CITY. So now you should have a screen showing your city from a distance away and some building areas, these are usually represented as yellow grass. Click one. You should have the options of building a FARM, increases food, QUARRY, increases stone, SAWMILL, increases lumber/wood and finally IRONMINE, which increases the production of iron. Choose whichever you want, but I would recommend the FARM at this point in time, because food will be unsafe later on in the game, due to so many variables! Now you should have a time on the bottom left of your screen which shows a time, this is time it has left to build your structure. Once the time is up, you have successfully completed building your FARM! You can now go back to your TOWN perspective to continue the guide.
[edit] Structures and Buildings
You will encounter buildings and structures from the very start; they are included in quests and can open up new doors for you in the game. Here is a synopsis of every building you can get in your town.
COTTAGE – These will house your population and increase how many people can live in your city as well.
BARRACKS – These will be your friend very early on. You can hire and fire troops that you build here, ranging from ordinary Workers to Ballista’s.
TOWN HALL – The centre of the civilisation is your TOWN HALL. You may appoint Mayor’s here, change Tax Rate, see the valleys you have conquered and a variety of other things – basically it is your house from home.
WALLS – Your defence is very important in Evony. Upgrading your WALLS can give you an advantage over oncoming enemies. But also you can upgrade them with a range of goodies such as Defensive Catapults and Rolling logs.
MARKETPLACE – Low on resources? Then head for the MARKETPLACE and buy or sell resources. But you may have to sacrifice some GOLD if you want some.
INN – This is where you appoint your well endowed HERO. Your HERO leads your attacks and will never die! Although they may get captured, there are always more heroes for you to hire.
FEASTING HALL – This is where your HERO lives. That’s all.
BEACON TOWER – Very useful BEACON TOWER can warn you of incoming attacks, the higher the level the more effective it is.
ACADEMY – You will need this to upgrade your civilisations main working parts. You can increase construction time, make your army more powerful and even make your people work harder!
RELIEF STATION – This will probably be the last thing you will build, it makes your troops go faster and be better maintained.
RALLY SPOT – You have no RALLY SPOT then you might as well have no army! The RALLY SPOT allows you to march, exercise and heal your troops. You should get this early on.
FORGE & WORKSHOPS – They go hand in hand really, you will need these to upgrade other buildings and structures.
EMBASSY – This is where you can be invited to join alliances, so go and build one otherwise you may find yourself gone before you started.
WAREHOUSE - This is where you will be keeping a percentage of your resources, you may also change how many resources you can keep in there.
STABLE - This is where you keep your horse based troops, the Cavalry and Cataphracts.
[edit] Menu buttons
On the bottom right of your screen you should have 8 symbols. One for SHOP, one for QUESTS, one for ALLIANCES, one for REPORTS, one for STATS, one for MAIL, one for CONTACT US and one for the FORUM. Now the FORUM and CONTACT US should be very self explanatory. But here is a quick guide for the rest.
SHOP – This is place you can spend cents! Now you can fork out a few to spend on the SHOP with real money, or if you are truly in the spirit of slogan “Free Forever” the Shop is irrelevant to you.
QUESTS – This is where you will be earning most of your rewards, they start simple but get harder and harder once you go further through the game. All you do is complete the QUEST TARGET, and then you get your QUEST reward. If there are new quests they will be represented at a red number on the bottom right. Now on the top of this menu there is another tab called DAILY QUEST, which is to log on daily and receive a ARIES AMULET which can be used in the WHEEL OF FORTUNE which I will take about later.
ALLIANCES – Alliances bond different Evony players together to perform different action which you might not have been able to do before. You will be invited to join an alliance, but you can always ask in the CHAT if you want to join one. But remember you only can be in one alliance.
REPORTS – You should see 6 tabs. These do correspond to what type of report that has arrived.
ENEMY shows your enemies’ movements.
ARMY MOVEMENT shows your armies movement.
ALLIES INFO shows what your allies are doing in correspondence to you (that maybe reinforcement or giving you resources).
ARMY shows how long they have to go to reach their target,
TRADE shows how long certain things have to go before they arrive to you which you bought through the MARKETPLACE.
OTHER which explains itself really. If there is a new report there is a green number in the bottom right corner of the image.
MAIL – MAIL is what you get from people and the system of information or just to chat. A new message is represented as a blue number in the bottom right of the image.
STATS – This is where you are in the world! Compare against others in the bid to reach the top.
[edit] Wheel Of Fortune
The Wheel of Fortune is represented as a roulette wheel on the bottom left of your screen just above SHOP. This is luck of the draw mini-game where it spins around and selects a prize for you at random. This could range from medals, resources, troops and EVONY CENTS. The bold prizes are worth the most (these are usually highlighted in yellow). They can range from ULTIMATE GUIDELINES, which can speed up construction time, and 1000 CENTS. You can access the Wheel of Fortune everyday once you have an amulet, you may also buy amulets from the SHOP.
[edit] Prestige, Honor and Rank
On the top right hand of your screen you should see your selected avatar. This section provides info on your PRESTIGE, HONOR and RANK/TITLE. Your PRESTIGE is represented by a striped flag symbol, PRESTIGE offers your rewards in quests and people may not let you join an ALLIANCE if you don’t have enough of it. Below that is the name of your current ALLIANCE. Below the ALLIIANCE is your RANK. You start off with the RANK of Civilian, but you can increase your RANK as time goes on in the QUEST menu. Your TITLE is below the RANK. You don’t get a TITLE at first but as you progress you can earn a TITLE by going through the QUEST menu as well. Then below that, this is the one you might be familiar with is... STATS, this actually shows your number of where you are on the WORLD charts.
