A NPC is a Non-Player City, also known as a Barbarian's Town. They do not belong to any alliance and have special uniform regenerative properties. The level of NPCs indicate the level of defensive strength and maximum amount of resources found within.

NPC Loot and Transports Needed by Level

Note: The research Privateering does not alter the amount of loot you will gain from hitting Barbarian towns, as they do not contain a warehouse.

The numbers below assume 0 capacity from other troops to bring back plunder. Even Ballistas can bring back some plunder if the NPC is not far away from the attacking city. For example, an NPC 5 that is 1 mile away can be plundered completely with 397 Transporters and 300 Ballistas when Logistics level is 10, and you use a Hero with Attack attribute 140 or greater. An NPC 7 that is 1 mile away can be plundered completely with 580 Transporters when 84K Archers with rainbow are sent with the Transporters and less than 10K troops are casualties.

Town structure & Contents

Each NPC contains buildings that are all the same as its level, (ie. all level 1 npcs have all level 1 buildings). Each NPC contains an academy, forge, embassy, workshop, feasting hall, stable, inn, rally spot, barracks, relief station, beacon tower, and twenty cottages. Resource fields consist of one sawmill, ironmine, and quarry, and the rest of the fields are farms. NPCs do not have warehouses.

Note: These numbers are subject to change. For example, a Level 5 NPC now only has 450,000 gold.

NPC Behavior

Attack / Aggression

Barbarian Towns don't ever attack cities. However, if you try transporting to someone of much higher prestige, there is a chance of your transport caravan getting attacked by barbarians. If they succeed, your transport caravan will be taken out, whether it be transporters or warriors and so on. They may all be killed and the resources will be taken. Often exactly half of the troops and resources will be taken. You will be notified of this in a plunder report listed in black text.

Regeneration

It takes an NPC 8 hours to regenerate all of its resources.

It takes an NPC 1 hour to regenerate all of its defenses, troops and fortifications, at a rate of 10% every six minutes (the same six minute mark that your taxes are collected).

NPC Farming

NPC farming is the process of harvesting the benefits of attacking NPCs. NPCs yield two kinds of benefits: experience and resources. The specifics of the NPC farming process are covered in the section Plundering NPCs.

For maximum yield and efficiency, you will want to have as many zero-loss NPCs as close to your city as possible, to minimize the time wasted due to unit movement. For stronger players, having very high level NPCs close by produces very high returns at a predictable and efficient rate of loss. Building new NPCs is an option for cities with nearby flats.

Farming NPCs for experience

Higher level NPCs are like steriods for heroes. Since defeating NPCs gives your hero experience, and experience allows advancement in level, and advancement in level results in additional attribute bonuses, it is appropriate for all heroes to be developed through NPC farming.

Since NPCs fully regenerate their fortifications every hour, they can be attacked 24 times a day if you want to gain maximum experience for your hero.

Farming NPC's for prestige

you can farm NPC's for prestige by attacking them with warriors you will gain a few hundred prestige (from low leveled npc's) to over 15k prestige (high leveled npc's). I recommend this formula for the number of warriors to use:(npc level)* 11000/(hero Att/100)exept for level 9-10 npc's where the formula is :(npc level)* 11000/(hero Att/150)

Farming NPCs for Resources

NPCs are the grocery stores of Evony. Think of transporters as your shopping cart, and ballista as your charge card that, if used correctly, never runs out.

Since NPCs regenerate all their resources in 8 hours, they can be farmed for full yield 3 times a day.

Npc can acutally be attacked 4 times a day - after the server maintenece it fills up npc's so if you get an attack ready to hit just before and then straight after the maintenance this enables you to do it 4 times a day!!!!

Building new NPCs

You can build new NPCs if you are able to build a new town. An NPC is nothing more than an abandoned player city. The level of the NPC will depend on the level of flat it was before you took it over.. Say the Flat was a level 10, once abandoned the town would turn into a level 10 NPC.

Plundering NPCs

Lower level NPCs (1-5) can be plundered without losses by sending only a minimum number of ballista units for a given the level of NPC. Rainbowing (adding one or more of other troops in the attack force) for these NPCs isn't suggested since they'll just die on the first round against the NPC traps and abatis. If a battles reaches 100 rounds, you will be declared the loser and sent home with nothing, even if you have taken no losses.

Higher level NPCs (6+) will always incur some losses.

Since NPCs regenerate all their resources in 8 hours, they can be farmed for full yield 4 times a day as they also regenerate resources after maintenance so time the attacks right just before and after the maintenance.

Since NPCs fully regenerate their fortifications every hour, they can be attacked 24 times a day if you want to gain maximum experience for your hero.

The actual minimum number of ballista needed for zero loss depends on your combination of Archery, Horseback Riding, and Military Tradition levels, and also your hero attack attribute.

  • As hero attack increases, the minimum number of units needed decreases.
  • A minimum archery level is needed for zero loss. As the attacker's archery level increases, so does the range of the ballista. The ballista need to shoot farther than the defending archer's towers.
  • As horseback riding level increases, so does the speed of the ballista. If the ballista advance too fast, they come into range of the defending archer's towers before eliminating them.
  • Do not let your Horseback Riding level get higher than your Archery level or your ballista will move into range of the Archer's Towers before the towers can be destroyed. For a quick reference, see the Reports for Archery vs. Horseback Riding Levels
  • Level 5 NPCs are much more sensitive to the Archery to Horseback Riding level ratio than level 1-4 NPCs.
  • If you upgrade to HBR level 10, you need a lot more ballista to win without losses. I had to multiply my previously used (level 9) numbers by 2.5.

Warning: going below 320 balista's on an npc will still start giving small losses depending on the defending hero apperently. You will not get losses every single time but might get a few. 320 seems to be safe though, As soon as the amount of rounds needed breaks 75 rounds losses can start to appear.

Interpretation: HBR lvl 5 with archery 8 is a safe value as far as you send enough to wipe out the enemy. 500 ballistae is considered the minimum but if you refer to the above tables you'll see that this also requires a high attack hero ( at least 70+ ) for instance, my lvl 100+ attacker can take lvl 4 npc's in less rounds with less ballistae as my int hero ( lvl 30 attack ) needs to conquer a lvl 3 npc. In order to succeed with my low attack hero I actually need to send 5 times the amount of ballistae my high attacker needs. ( lvl 93 attacker needed 20, lvl 30 attacker needs 110 and is already brushing the auto-defeat due to 100 rounds ) Sending lesser units ( 60, resulted in a complete loss with all units killed )
Your ballistae need to take out ALL archers towers in the first shot, not sending a strong enough force will let them leave some at's up which then get a chance to shoot back at you, wiping you out. 500 ballistae is only safe with at least a lvl 70 + attacker, anything below that and it should be highly increased. This is due to the fact that your initial attack equals your ballista attack

I have found a way of getting below those "magical" 350 ballistas with only level 8 archery - seems like it is very dependent on hero attack value, I started from 500 ballistas with the same (if several levels weaker) hero, and was attacking with 10 less by every attack, and there was no casualties on any of those ;).

I have been consistently defeating level 5 NPC'S with 290 ballista and level 10 archery and 9 HB hero between 80 - 120 have done this over 200 times. See battle report

- You will always take losses because NPC levels 6-10 have defensive trebuchets as fortifications
which have ranges of 5000.

Level 7 NPC: Hero attack 90, 3000 Ballista, 220 Ram, 4000 archers, 1000 pikemen, 2000 swordsmen, Archery 10, HBR 9, Iron working 9: defeated, 100% troop lost. Level 7 NPC: Hero attack 93, 2775 Ballista, 960 Ram, Archery 10, HBR 9, Iron working 9: defeated, 100% troop lost. Recommended for NPC level 7: with Hero attack 90+, Archery 10, HBR 9, Iron working 9: 5000 Ballista or 4000 Ballista+1000 Ram.

Level 7 NPC: Hero attack 132, 5200 Ballistae (Archery 10, HBR 10, Iron Working 10): Victory, 1290 Ballistae lost. User - Field, Server 25.

Note: If your level of horseback riding is 7 or 8, you'll loose ballistas in these attacks, because your ballistas move too fast, so they are unable to wipe out the archer towers before they are within their range. Level 6 and below or level 9 and above are your best options up until NPC 5.

Also Note: If the attack skill of the hero is too low you may lose ballista. Use a hero with attack skill of at least 40.

Suggestions for Attacking Level 8 NPC's

The nice thing about level 8 NPC's is the extra resources you get; 800k Lumber, Stone and Iron - Even Level 10's only have 600k.

I suggest using an Attack Hero with Attack of at least 140

2,000 Sword

1,500 Transports

88,500 Archers

Loose:

2,387 Warriors

2,000 Pike

Works well with Level 6 and 7 NPC's as well however I have not experimented with decreasing the troop counts for them.

you can also use 80000 warriors with 2000 transporters to farm a level 8 this will get you 20k prestige as well.


Now there is also another method; if you don't mind a bloodbath and taking the short amount of time it takes to build them you can use Warriors in place of what is above.

You will loose about half your Warriors however keep in mind they are cheap and fast to make.

HELP! WHAT IS GOING ON?

i was attacking npc 10 normally as i do then all of a sudden the next day i sarted to take 25k archer loses pls post somin if u have a clue what is going on - i really need ur help!

On server 86 the same thing is happening - every once in a while when I send the standard rainbow I loose 30k of 90 or so K of archers; what happens is that I spring every single trap; all of them at one time. This has happened to me twice and to others as well. I beleive it must be a programming anomoly when a certain combination of elements is present. One would need to collect data and research to find the cause.

hey so i worked out the problem - its cos i put compass to level 10 which i will never do again i suggest leaving it at 9 as if u put it to 10 u will need hrsbck riding 10 as well which i did'nt have so if u can do hrsbck 10 do compass 10 as well

please tell if i can use 16k balls and 74k archers with a lvl10 npc -You can most probably make it with the 74K archers if your techs and att hero is good enough.


A couple of tips for farming a lvl 10 NPC:

1. First of all, i have not used War Ensign when i have attacked, it is enough with a lvl 10 or 9 rally spot. You will get more losses, but you get to save the item for a more important battle. If possible, send multiple waves, there is a high chance of getting a medal on the first 3-6 attacks, those waves should be 20,000 archers or more.(You should also have them hit within a maximum of 6 minutes after the first attack, because of the 10% regeneration every 6 mins.) I usually send 1K of each melee troop and as many archers as possible on the first wave(spots left minus number of transports needed). I also send 3x5000 warriors to hit before the main attack, to clear out some traps and trebs (send a poor hero, considering you might lose it unless the loyalty is 100.)

2. The best way to attack a lv. 10 NPC is to send 2k workers, 2k warriors, 2k scouts, 2k pikemen, 2k swordmen, 3k trans ( if u have all ur research) and 87k archers, and of course ur best attack hero( has to be above 110 attack). Also, make sure u scout the lv. 10 till u get a lv. 1 hero so minimize most losses. U will loose all the 2k groups... and between 5k-20k archers.. depending on ur hero's attack... no trans will be lost. I hope this helps everyone in their farming of lv. 10's :)
